The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD) is delighted to announce the appointment of five new Trustees: Amro Alkado, Gordon Downie, Beth Morrison, Barry Sillers and Natasha Spassiani.

Together, they bring a wealth of expertise, lived experience and perspectives that will help guide the organisation as it continues working towards a Scotland where people with learning disabilities live full, safe, loving and equal lives.

Ann Dougan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said:

“I’m delighted to welcome our five new Trustees to SCLD. Each of them brings valuable expertise, fresh perspectives and a shared commitment to creating a fairer Scotland for people with learning disabilities.

“As we approach our 25th anniversary, this is an exciting time for SCLD. We have ambitious plans for the future, and I know our new Trustees will play an important role in driving change and working alongside people with learning disabilities to tackle inequality.”

Fiona Whelan, Trustee and Chair of the SCLD Recruitment & Nominations subcommittee, said:

“The response to our recruitment campaign was extremely positive. We were encouraged by the quality and diversity of applications we received, and we would like to thank everyone who applied for sharing their passion and commitment to SCLD’s vision.

“We’re also grateful to our colleagues and the people with lived experience who supported the recruitment process. Their insight, challenge and expertise ensured co-production was at the heart of every stage and helped us appoint five exceptional new Trustees.”

Over the coming weeks, SCLD will introduce each of its new Trustees on its website and social media channels, sharing more about their backgrounds, what inspired them to join SCLD and what they hope to contribute.
