Jan is the Executive Director of Scottish Human Rights Commission and was previously Director of ENABLE Scotland. She joined the SCLD board in 2022.

Beth Morrison is the Founder of Positive and Active Behaviour Support Scotland (PABSS) and one of Scotland’s most recognised voices in children’s rights, trauma-informed practice and safeguarding. In July 2026, she was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Education from the University of Abertay Dundee, acknowledging her national contribution to protecting vulnerable children and influencing meaningful policy reform. Beth’s work began with her own family’s experiences and grew into a decade-long commitment to ensuring that no child is harmed through unsafe or outdated practices. Through PABSS, she has supported families across Scotland, delivered training to thousands of professionals, and helped shape a national conversation about restrictive practices, trauma, and the rights of disabled children. Her advocacy was central to the development of Calum’s Law, a campaign that brought widespread attention to the urgent need for change in schools and early years settings. Alongside her work with PABSS, Beth is a trustee of the UK Restraint Reduction Network and previously served two terms as a trustee of Enable Scotland. She has contributed to national guidance, policy consultations and professional learning frameworks, always championing dignity, compassion and evidence-based practice. Her leadership continues to influence educators, social care practitioners and policymakers across the UK.

Fiona is an Assistant Principal Officer within the Higher Education Authority in the Republic of Ireland. She was previously Assistant Director for Accessibility and Inclusion at the University of St Andrews. She has a background in education, access, student welfare and disability services. Fiona is Chair of the Remuneration and Nominations Committee and has been a Trustee since 2022.

Barry’s leadership career spans national and international, executive and non-executive roles across defence, health and social care, justice and the voluntary sectors. Most importantly Barry brings a passion for helping others and personal lived experience of the daily challenges and opportunities, for people with learning disabilities seeking to make an impactful contribution in their communities and to be the best that they can be.

Amro Alkado is a Dental Practice Adviser with NHS Grampian and a Vocational Training Adviser with Public Services Delivery Scotland. His background is in healthcare governance and professional education, with a particular interest in systems thinking, organisational behaviour and how complex systems shape people’s experiences.

Marion is an Independent Celebrant, who was previously Executive Director of The Dollywood Foundation UK. Marion joined the Board at SCLD in 2017.

Kenneth Watt is the Head of Devolved Nations at the Competition and Markets Authority. His background is in policy, public affairs and communications, with previous roles at the British Red Cross, Oxfam and the Scottish Parliament. He joined the board in 2022 and his younger sister has a learning disability.

Iain is an Education Law Consultant at Cairn Legal, and former Chair of the Scottish Government Advisory Group on Additional Support for Learning. He joined the Board at SCLD in 2017.

Natasha Spassiani is a Scientist at the Azrieli Adult Neurodevelopmental Centre at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada. She leads inclusive research in partnership with people with learning disabilities, with a focus on health equity, human rights, and disability justice. Having worked across Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, she brings an international perspective and expertise in inclusive health and social care research. She is committed to elevating the leadership and lived expertise of people with learning disabilities and promoting meaningful participation, inclusion, and belonging in research, community life, and society.

Gordon is a practising solicitor with over 30 years of experience working with public and private sector clients (including charities) across the UK and overseas. His areas of expertise include economic regulation, competition law and public and administrative law. As the parent of an adult child with learning disabilities, Gordon has a close, personal interest in issues relating to advocacy services in Scotland.

Ann brings lifelong lived experience of learning disability as a sibling and carer. She joined the SCLD Board in 2017, having previously served as a Board Member at Quarriers. During her time as a trustee, Ann has chaired several board committees and served as Vice-Chair before being appointed Chair in 2025. Alongside her board roles, Ann has worked as a senior executive, business advisor and interim manager across the private, public and voluntary sectors. She enjoys staying active, the arts, and spending time with family and friends.
