Launching soon: new resources to help support women with lived experience of learning disabilities and gender-based violence.
“Over the past year, the project has shown how powerful co-production and lived experience can be in making real change. Together we’ve built a toolkit that helps services be more inclusive, fair, and accessible for women with learning disabilities facing gender-based violence. And word spread fast! It’s clear there’s real energy and interest in getting this right!”
(Quote from People First (Scotland)’s Equally Safe Group about the pilot of the resources, 2025)
SCLD and People First Scotland are excited to launch our co-produced gender-based violence and learning disability self-assessment toolkit called Equally Safe and Supported online on Tuesday 24th June!
Equally Safe and Supported is a practical set of resources designed to support organisations to make their services accessible to women with learning disabilities who have experienced gender-based violence.
The toolkit is based on the findings and recommendations of our co-produced research report: Unequal, Unheard, Unjust: But Not Hidden Anymore
This report tells us that, as well as being at greater risk of gender-based violence, victim/survivors with learning disabilities experience pervasive barriers to accessing support and justice.
These barriers may be unintentional or unrecognised. Therefore, we hope this toolkit will be a practical resource for organisations to make their services accessible to women with learning disabilities who have experienced gender-based violence.
To find out more about the toolkit and how to access it, join us at our online launch event at 1pm on Tuesday 24th June.
